Titus's name appears in the New Testament only 13 times. What we learn about Titus can only be gleaned from the few references Paul makes concerning him in 2 Corinthians, Galatians, and 2 Timothy. His name does not even appear in the Book of Acts, though his participation in Paul's missionary journeys is clear from Paul's other writings. We know more about Luke because of the authorship his Gospel and the Book of Acts. Still, the material on both these men contained in the New Testament is scant, but it's really all we have from which to re-construct substantial portraits of their lives. Fortunately, aside from these personal references that mention them by name, there is much more than meets the eye that we can learn about them when we see them in the overall context of the story of the first-century church. Over half of the Book of Acts and the majority of New Testament letters center around the apostle Paul and his ministry. Of all the New Testament characters, who knew Titus and Luke better than Paul? Taking a fictional approach, this book tells their stories as seen through the eyes of the apostle Paul himself. Within this context of their relationship to Paul, we learn the most about them and come to appreciate the significant roles they played in the history of the early church. Telling that story requires placing Paul, Titus, and Luke within the chronology of events that took place in the New Testament. Then you will see just where Titus and Luke emerge and fit in.This book provides more than just a tribute to Titus and Luke. Their lives are a small part of the much larger story of the first-century church, and their actions are most meaningful when viewed within this context. Thus, you will find in these pages the drama of individuals, but also of an entire movement. And by the end of this story, you will come to appreciate the contributions Titus and Luke made as pillars and unsung heroes among all the New Testament characters.
